As a mother of a 10 year old daughter, I am delighted to have the opportunity to join together with some fellow teen and tween bloggers Jo at Mother of Teenagers and Sharon at After The Playground to introduce a new linky relating to the Tweens and Teens in our lives. (#TweensTeensBeyond).
During our time blogging, we have really enjoyed linking up with others and sharing stories and we wanted to take this a step further and open up an area with a common theme of the over 10s and the wonderful folks involved in raising these young adults. This covers children in their last year of primary school, the transition to secondary school and beyond.
For me, this year heralds a big change as we leave the primary years. Like many others, we await news of secondary schools places and will be ticking off many ‘lasts’ like school runs, play dates, assemblies and gingham summer dresses.
The ‘lasts’ will be replaced with many ‘firsts’ like new schools, more friends, independence, timetables, the teenage years and a nice stiff blazer to name but a few.
It will be a year of endings and beginnings and change.
I have really enjoyed working with these two lovely ladies. None of us have had our own linky before and we are all very excited about getting this started. We have thrashed out our ideas and brought together our combined knowledge to create what we hope will be a great area of sharing. We have also been able to call on other bloggers for their advice in getting setting up which we are really grateful for.
This has been a real beard and dark glasses moment for all of us because we have, of course, only met online. But in the way these relationships, can and do form, we also all have something else in common in so far as we are all rocking out our forties this year too. And there really is no better time to start something new and embrace the change that I mention above.
Each of us have our own personal challenges and goals in moving through this next stage of parenting because our landscape changes too. As our children become young adults, we are needed in different ways. It is a time when we start to see our own lives changing too.
One of the most important things for all of us was to make this linky as inclusive as possible. Whilst the theme is Tweens and Teens, there is also a ‘beyond’. There has to be one – right? For us, the beyond relates to the grown-ups, those that lurk behind the kids, steering them on their way in the best way we can. Stuff comes up for us too doesn’t it – whether that be through life changes, ageing, work, health or however it may present itself – change is all around. It needs an airing from time to time.
We also know that you don’t have to be a parent to have experience of this age group and life stage and we welcome your knowledge and posts with open arms too.
The linky will be launching on Tuesday 7th March at 10.00am and will run weekly thereafter.
Full details of the linky and its rules will be posted on 7th March.
If you would like to be kept in the loop on the linky (now there’s a thing links and loopy’s), please let us know and we will add you to our mailing list and social media contacts.
You can also follow us on our respective Social Media sites.
We would love your support and for you to join with us on Tuesday 7 March for the #TweensTeensBeyond launch and we hope to see you there.
